The role

This role provides marketing and business support to the Timber Sales and Marketing Team, ensuring the smooth delivery of timber operations across the Welsh Government Woodland Estate. Acting as the first point of contact for both internal and external timber customers, the postholder will play a key role in maintaining strong relationships and providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities include issuing PINs via telephone to facilitate the uplift of timber, completing timber despatch processes such as PIN exceptions, PIN checks, and managing instances of overloading. The role also involves updating weight ticket data within the Timber Sales System and carrying out checks to ensure accuracy and compliance.

This is a varied and customer‑focused position, requiring attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a busy operational team.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

This opportunity will be offered as a Fixed Term Appointment until 30 September 2026

About us

The Timber Sales and Marketing Team sits within the Communications, Customer and Commercial directorate in NRW.

The team is tasked with compliantly delivering against targets for timber income, volume and customer care standards set out in the business plan and Timber Marketing Plan.

The majority of the team are based in the Aberystwyth office but we have offices across Wales.

What you will do

  • Receive and process information as required by the business eg invoices received, customer debt levels, self-billing customer invoices, self-billing haulier payments, purchase orders, new supplier registration, health and safety tasks, meeting arrangements, roadside payment requests, stack measure payments PPE orders, roadside stock levels, permissions, staff training plans, the unit training needs analysis, issue haulier PIN numbers, coupe closures/restrictions, road defect reports, weighbridge tickets, contract volume status,  despatch ticket status document filing.
  • Administer mini competition framework tenders, recording returns and advising tenderers of results.
  • Produce maps detailing information for coupe sale purposes eg constraints, power lines, Long Term Contract tenders and DP service tenders.
  • Carry out analysis and audit of processes as required eg PIN exceptions and PIN checks, instances of overloading.
  • Assist in visits to external customers for non-return of weight tickets and undertake audit checks as required.
  • Instigate 3 monthly Equipment & Hearing Checks
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills

In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.

  1. Ability to understand the relevant NRW policy and procedures required to carry out your duties.
  2. Experience of working autonomously and making decisions without line manager input.
  3. Skills to ensure that communication is carried out clearly and effectively.
  4. Experience of software systems eg TMP, MyNRW, GIS, Web Intelligence and Microsoft Office.

Welsh Language level requirements 

  • Essential: Level A1 - Entry level
