The role

Are you passionate about protecting our marine environment and keen to start or grow your career in environmental science? We’re looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Marine Environmental Assessment Officer to support the delivery of our marine monitoring programme  across North Wales.

In this hands-on and varied role, you’ll help deliver Natural Resources Wales’ marine monitoring programme, which is vital to meeting our legal responsibilities under the Water Environment Regulations. You’ll get involved in planning and carrying out a wide range of coastal and estuarine field surveys—covering everything from water quality and fish monitoring to intertidal habitats like saltmarshes and seagrass beds.

You’ll also play a key part in managing the valuable data we collect: supporting data collation, entry, analysis and storage, while ensuring equipment is well maintained and ready for use in the field.

Working as part of a friendly, multidisciplinary team of 20 marine professionals, you’ll be based in North Wales but may also have the opportunity to support surveys in other areas. You’ll be contributing directly to the protection and understanding of Wales’ unique marine ecosystems—and building skills and experience in a supportive, high-impact environment.

This is an ideal role if you enjoy both practical outdoor work and data handling, are highly organised, and want to make a meaningful difference to our coastal and marine environments.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

To make an informal enquiry about this role, please contact Lucie Haines lucie.haines@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk

Interviews will take place via Microsoft Teams on 29/09/2025.

Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.
