The role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and proactive team member to help drive the effective management of our water abstraction returns system.
In this role, you’ll work closely with colleagues from across NRW and engage directly with external customers, so confident and clear communication in both English and Welsh is essential.
You’ll thrive in a fast‑paced environment, bringing strong organisational skills and the ability to work accurately under pressure. Experience in water resources or data management would be a real advantage, and proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Excel and Power BI will help you hit the ground running.
As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

About us
You’ll be part of a diverse and experienced Water Resources Regulatory Approaches team, that sits within NRW's Evidence, Policy and Permitting Directorate.
Our Team’s remit includes the development and delivery of internal operational guidance and training resources. The Team also manages the Water Resources Return Service, which records abstraction data to support compliance.
What you will do
Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills
In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.
- A working knowledge of water resources, environment management, agriculture, fisheries, conservation or biodiversity.
- An understanding of the sustainable management of natural resources.
- Strong and effective self-management and organisational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers and partners; explaining issues and gaining support by influencing.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.

- Essential: Level B1 - Intermediate level
